AssessNet NZ - Online
Assessment & Moderation Community
Introduction & Background
AssessNet NZ has been established to facilitate an Online
Assessment & Moderation Community in NZ. This website is the temporary
gateway to AssessNet NZ.
The primary focus of AssessNet NZ is to offer professional
development opportunites to the new people moving into assessment and
moderation and to provide the experienced people already involved with
assessment and moderation to offer their expertise through forums, in chat
rooms and networking.
AssessNet NZ will also provide a point of collection for
web links and explanations and commentary of existing public resources and the
opportunity to upload and share resources using the structure and functionality
provided within Moodle.
AssessNet NZ will offer a range of FREE introductory assessment and moderation training sessions, access to instant assessment resources, links to public learning material on assessment
and moderation, host public forums and provide access for people to offer their
expertise and provide links to the other public resources that already exist.
This Online Assessment &
Moderation Community will provide resources for new and experienced people
involved in writing standards, designing assessment material, pre-assessment
moderation, conducting assessments, post assessment moderation, external
moderation and quality assurance requirements involved with all things
assessment and moderation.
To participate in the forums all you need to do is create
a valid user name and password to get instant access. We encourage you to invite other
people in your network to join in. With everyone participating, this resource
can be the online community for people from all accredited Providers including;
Secondary Schools, Private Training Establishments (PTE's), Industry Training
Organisations (ITOs) and Polytechnics.
The more people we have responding
to questions posted on discussions and forums on AssessNet NZ the better and
Edbiz will undertake to get some of the more involved questions
answered to help with providing instant assessment solutions to our AssessNet NZ users.
AssessNet NZ is an online resource for people working in
the education sector. It is a membership-based network that allows
anyone instant guest access the free assessment information in AssessNet NZ. All we ask is that
you become part of the online community by joining up. We are not trying to set up an online school for assessment or to provide units online. AssessNetNZ is just a resource to be used to help promote good Assessor and Moderator practice in New Zealand.
You can join up for FREE by logging in to AssessNet NZ,
obtaining your own user name and password. This will give you access to all
courses, forums and activities set up for the network. It is obvious that we
are still establishing AssessNet NZ, and trust that you will put in your suggestions,
participate in the discussions and put in your courses requests to help get it
going. We will endevour to provide instant reponses to your questions about assessment and moderation.

Why AssessNet NZ?
This is not a new
concept, and as a matter of interest, after securing the domain name,
www.assess.net.nz, we found an AssessNet in the UK and variations of
the concepts in other countries that have been established
for some time.
New Zealand has public forums people can join and participate
in social and professional forums and chats, which do not appear to be
used by a lot of people. We are all busy people in the education sector so
perhaps this is why there is so little participation?
AssessNet NZ is not
trying to recreate anything that already exists, rather link up those resources
and combine them with our professional development resources.
What is the connection with Edbiz?
Edbiz hosts AssessNet.NZ. Edbiz uses Moodle for its
Professional Development courses, the EdCoach Series.
This includes assessor and moderator training and other
customised adult education training. As well as offering onsite face to face
training EdCoach courses for the courses are offered using a blended delivery
approach including, distance, 1 on 1 coaching sessions and self directed
practical modules in the workplace.
It was a natural progression for Edbiz to open parts of
its online resources up to the assessment and moderation community for
AssessNet NZ.
Edbiz will continue to be the principal sponsor and host
of AssessNet NZ in the future.
Will AssessNet NZ always be FREE?
AssessNet NZ will be FREE so long as we can secure sponsorship and advertising to keep it hosted and maintained.
